Battleship (2012)

5 out of 5 stars
The producers of this movie must be playing with the kiddy board game 'Battleship' on one afternoon and suddenly they go, "Hey! Let's make a movie out of this game!" *LOL Just kidding*
This movie is awesome! Must-watch!! For all I could remember, the last aliens-invasion movie was Battle: Los Angeles (2011); it is a great movie too but Battleship is even better!
Just take this 1 vs. 1 scenario, a human battleship VS. a technologically-advanced alien warship triple the size of the human's... Guess who won?
Already one of the very best in the world, this movie further projected the strength of the US Navy, probably the mightiest Navy in the world. I'm guessing there will be an increase of recruitments in the US Navy in the coming months...
The story is about NASA (human) discovering a planet almost identical to Earth's. Then we sent a signal over to them in hoping of getting a reply from them, and we got more than what we hoped for... They decided to invade our planet. I think there's no need to further elaborate the story.
Actually my main purpose of this post is, what is the possibility of having another planet identical to Earth's? And if there is better technologically-advanced intelligent being out there, will they come in peace or will they invade us?
What I personally think is, there's DEFINITELY planets somewhere out there which is identical to Earth's and there's DEFINITELY beings out there as intelligent as humans or even better!
No, I didn't base this on the reported sightings of UFOs. I based this on my perspective of the universe...
Since I was a child, I've always been very interested about the universe because I realized that the universe is so incredibly vast & infinite; It is the totality of everything that exists, has existed, and will exist including all physical space, time, matter and energy.
Just how huge is the universe? Well, no one really knows how huge is the universe but ask anyone who have basic knowledge of the universe and they will tell you that the universe is really, really, very BIG.
By the way, do you know that the every little star you see at night is actually a Sun? I'm surprised that many of my friends do not know this when I asked them! Everyone of them thought that a star is a star and a sun is just the sun.
Actually, the sun is the nearest star to us, but we called it a sun because we humans simply named it Sun.
Just to give you a rough idea of just how big the universe is, take look at this picture...
This is just a very small fraction of the universe...
In the above picture, every little small 'dots' that you see is a galaxy.
A galaxy is made up of over a 100 billion Suns!
The sun that we see daily is just one of them.
And there's over a 100 billion galaxies in the universe!
For a rough idea of what I'm trying to explain, take a look at the below picture...
This is how incredibly huge the universe is... What do you think about the possibility of having another planet similar like Earth's?
Now for the next question, if we were really to be visited by aliens, will they come in peace? Or will they invade us just like the Battleship movie??
You know, through the decades there have been countless Hollywood movies about alien-invasion. To name a few of the popular ones are Independence Day (1996), Mars Attack! (1996), War of the Worlds (2005), Cloverfield (2008) and Battle: Los Angeles (2011). In fact, I guess every 7 of out 10 aliens-encounter movies are plotted with aliens trying to invade Earth.
So, my say on this question is... No, they will NOT come in peace. If one day we were to discover that alien spaceships are coming to Earth, they will have already decided on invading Earth.
Why? For this reason, I have to give the credits to Stephen Hawking.
Just in case you don’t know who Stephen Hawking is, here's a very short introduction on him...
Stephen Hawking
Stephen Hawking is one of the most famous scientists alive in the world. He is known for his contributions to the fields of cosmology and quantum gravity, especially in the context of black holes.
His entire body is physically disabled by a disease also known as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. He is often regarded by the media as a genius and modern Albert Einstein. Stephen Hawking is 70 years old.
A few years ago, I watched a documentary special on Discovery Channel about the theories of Stephen Hawking; the universe, black-holes, time-traveling, and extraterrestrial intelligent beings. He offered some of his views on extraterrestrial intelligent being and what it might be like.
Stephen Hawking believes that there is likely to be have intelligent life out there. Depending on evolution of the alien's civilization, they might or might not be as technologically-advanced as us, but most likely they will be far more technologically-advanced than us.
Then why hasn't they make contact with us? There are a couple of reasons, but I think one of the mains one would be because they haven’t discovered us yet.
Regarding those UFO sightings, he discount suggestions that the UFO's actually contain beings from outer space. (i think he is trying to say that the UFOs might be fake, or unmanned) Because he thinks that any visits by aliens, would be much more obvious, and very likely, much more unpleasant...
He thinks that if one day when they decided to come to Earth, they wouldn't come in peace... It will be an invasion.
Hawking imagine they might exist in massive ships, having used up all the resources from their home planet or destroyed by war between alien empires (much like Alien VS. Predator i guess...). These advanced alien will be looking to conquer and colonize whatever planets they can reach.
What Stephen Hawking said is exactly like the reason why the aliens (in the movie Battleship) came to invade Earth. Because their planet was destroyed by alien wars!
To be meeting a more advanced civilization, at our present stage, would be much like when Christopher Columbus first landed in America, which didn’t turn out very well for the Native Americans.
He suggested that if one day should we receive any signals from them, we should not reply and should wait till we are further advanced in our technology before sending a signal back to them. "Don't take the risk." Hawking said.
A scene from the Skyline (2010) movie.
